NEWS RELEASE 15th January 2004
Time theme wins first prize for the Science Photo Library calendar
Colourful, arresting and diverse pictures illustrating expressions of time are the theme for the Science Photo Library's 2004 calendar, which has won first prize in the National Business Calendar Awards (NBCA).
The cover picture is of dandelion seed heads representing "Nature of time", January's picture is a snail representing "Take your time", February a premature baby representing "Before his time" and March a scanning electron micrograph showing watch cogs representing "Time machine".
Other pictures include the fossilized shell of an ammonite (Test of time), a high-speed photographic sequence of a woman doing a pirouette (Move in time) and a thermogram of a hand pouring tea from a teapot into a cup (Time for tea).
Maria Storey, sales and marketing director at SPL says: "Having 'expressions of time' as our theme gave us the opportunity to show how our very wide range of imagery can also be used in a more generic way, rather than simply in a scientific context."
"We are delighted to have won first prize, having been highly commended in previous years."
The Science Photo Library is independent, privately owned and the only one of its kind in Britain. SPL is renowned for its high quality picture bank of 130,000 images created by photographers, illustrators, scientists and medical specialists.
