NEWS RELEASE 25 June 2001
Website redesign brings Science Photo Library images into view on the net
This month, the Science Photo Library launches its new, enhanced website, offering instant access to the most
comprehensive source of scientific, medical, technological and space images on the internet.

The site has been redesigned and developed so that the whole collection of 100,000 images is now online
and can be searched directly from the home page. Whether it is a close-up of a DNA, a bird's eye view of
tropical rainforest destruction or a telescope image of a galaxy cluster 50 million light years away -
all will be revealed on screen at the click of a mouse.
"We wanted to create a functional, easy to understand, accurate site where the images are the 'main characters'
of the story," explains managing director Giancarlo Zuccotto. "Our database is now the most comprehensive source of
scientific, medical, technological and space images on the internet."
Each week between 150 and 200 new images will be added to the website.
Users who wish to register can additionally access extended services such as power search functions,
lightboxes and online ordering.
Ordering online from SPL can be in transparency or digital form. Low-resolution files can be downloaded directly
from the site and high-resolution files can be ordered. Approved customers can download high-resolution files directly from the site.
"The redeveloped website brings a major improvement to the service we can provide all our customers."
says Maria Storey, marketing director of the Science Photo Library. "For those customers who want to search
themselves, we are delighted to be able to offer the option to search our entire collection online. And for those customers
who still want us to research for them, the new website now allows us to email pictures selections as lightboxes and thereby
give customers a preview of the search before we send out the pictures."
The Science Photo Library is the world's leading provider of science photos. Independent, privately owned and the only one
of its kind in Britain, SPL is renowned for its high quality picture bank, created by photographers, illustrators, scientists
and medical specialists.
